OUR HISTORY

The Community Resource Network Inc (CRN) was established in 1981 to collectively advocate for the community of Chifley and Greenway and support the community sector organisations that supported that community. In keeping with the historical intention, CRN today maintains a drive for social justice and equity, particularly for the indigenous communities, the vulnerable and disadvantaged.

CRN has had various names over the years:

Year 1981

Founded as Blacktown City Community Services Council

Year 1984

Incorporated as Blacktown City Community Services Network Inc.

Year 2004

Changed its name to Community Resource Network (CRN) Inc.

Year 2012

Registered Charity with ACNC

Year 2019

Endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR)

Today

CRN serves the Western Sydney communities with a focus on the Local Government Areas of Blacktown, The Hills and surrounding LGAs.

Our Purpose

The objectives for which the Association is established are:

  • to act as trustee and to perform and discharge the duties and functions incidental thereto where this is incidental or conducive to the attainment of these objects; and
  • to do such things as are incidental or ancillary to the attainment of these objects, which may include strengthening the voices of disadvantaged communities in the Western Sydney area through representing their needs.
  • to alleviate poverty and distress suffered by economically and socially disadvantaged communities in the areas of Blacktown, the Hills and surrounding Western Sydney areas including by, but not limited to:

1. acting as a regional peak body and representation group for, and optimising the collective capabilities of, organisations that provide services to directly alleviate poverty and distress suffered by economically and socially disadvantaged communities;

2. working with, resourcing, supporting and building the capacity of service providers to work together and collaborate on issues affecting disadvantaged communities in the Western Sydney area; and

3. enhancing the level of engagement of vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in the Western Sydney area with the programs and services of service providers which have been established to assist them;

PURPOSE

To work with organisations operating in Western Sydney, to relieve poverty and distress and address the impacts of all forms of social and economic disadvantage.

MISSION

  • Build capacity of service providers
  • Enhance level of engagement of vulnerable and disadvantaged communities
  • Strengthen voices of underprivileged communities
  • Develop collaborations and network between providers on issues affecting disadvantaged communities
  • Share information and resources on community projects, programs to assist disadvantaged communities and vulnerable groups
  • Research and advocate pressing issues affecting the sector delivery

Our Work

CRN is a local peak body providing support to strengthen organisations and services that provide direct benevolent relief to people in need in the community. Our focus is on building a self determining community.

Connect

We connect providers and services; building and strengthening referral pathways to better support the community in need.

Capacity Building

We build the capacity of our local service providers to be well equipped and supported in their activities.

Information & Resources

We collect, review and then share relevant information and key resources across the sector; for service providers to be kept informed.

Represent

We act as a representative for local issues/needs affecting those in need within the community; along with the impact on services that support them.
